In These Streets: Queen West

In These Streets - Queen West

Not too long ago, the poles on Toronto’s Queen Street West would bulge at their centers with inches upon inches of posters. The street promotion scene was incredibly competitive, with different crews covering and re-covering the district multiple times a day.

In the past couple years there’s been a crackdown on posting on polls downtown, with designated poster boards being erected, vigilant anti-poster clean-up crews and fines for everyone from the venues being promoted to the kids putting the stuff up for $10 an hour or 10¢ a piece.

The heat has lifted slightly recently, but the Queen West strip is still significantly quieter visually (and otherwise, I guess) than it once was. Some of the bigger companies have started posting again during peak hours, but the material gets taken down just as quickly. Here’s a sampling of what was still up after the weekend, and the usual club district poster binge-and-purge.

    1. Ya interesting article, I knew it was competitive out there but I didn’t know the history of the crackdowns and stuff. What I would really love to know is what the City’s schedule is for tacking down the postings! ~ Adam
